Can I use the Fonts on Windows? 視窗操作系統用唔用到？

✅ The Fonts have been tested in Windows 11. Users report ⚠️ partial support in Windows 10. 字體喺 視窗 11 通過測試。 用户回饋 視窗 10 有限度能用到。

✅ In recent versions of Word, the fonts Just Work, with full color support, real-time Jyutping correction, manual Jyutping override by cycling through readings, reference materials, automatic Jyutping formatting, and numbered / parts-of-speech call-outs. ☑️ LibreOffice / Affinity Designer / Affinity Photo / Affinity Publisher / Chrome / Adobe InDesign / Adobe Premiere Pro have the same functions but is not able to display colors.

☑️ Other fonts are usually too large for iOS, and only the monochrome version is recommended. 其他字體一般所需容量、資源較多，建議使用黑白版本。

Can I use the Fonts on Canva / Google Doc / …? 網頁軟件 app，如 Canva / Google Doc 用唔用到？

🚫 These do not allow custom fonts. 呢啲軟件唔容許你加載自家字形。

✅ Pasting from web-app as transparent-backed PNG files. 使用網頁程式貼圖砌上。

(Canva Pro lets you upload custom fonts but it also don’t support any font features.)

Can I use the Fonts on e-readers? 電子閲讀器用唔用到？

Can I use the Fonts on Android devices? Android 用唔用到？

❓ The Fonts are not tested on Android devices. 未試過。

Are there instructions? 有冇教學㗎？

✅ Yes. There are a mix of written and videos, available on the Internet as well as with the downloads. 有。網上以及下載項目內有各適其適嘅文字/影片教學：

Is it hard to install fonts? 安裝難唔難㗎？

In both Windows and Mac, installation is literally three clicks and in less than one minute. 喺 蘋果 同埋 視窗系統，安裝只需㩒三下滑鼠、一分鐘搞掂。

Where can I ask questions? 有問題可以去邊度問？
Are updates included? 包唔包更新㗎？

✅ The current version is 2.8. All 2.x updates are free. 現時版本為 2.8。 直至 3.0，所有更新都係免費嘅。

How long can I use the font for? 字體可以用幾耐？

Font

How many characters are included?

Cantonese Fonts include more than 29,000 characters, covering Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, as well as Japanese Hanzi shapes.

For comparison, about 4,000 characters are used on a day-to-day basis. Commercial fonts usually include 8,000 to 13,000 characters.

Where does the 99.7% accuracy come about?

I chose a mix of standard written Chinese, colloquial text, lyrics, and poems. These totalled > 40,000 Traditional Chinese characters. They were manually assigned correct Jyutping, and the font’s output compared against this ground truth. (Performance on Simplified and Japanese Chinese is not optimized and considerably worse.)

Can I correct a Jyutping?

There are three ways you can use to guide the Font to give a correct Jyutping:

  1. You can guide the Font into recognizing what is a word, using the | symbol as an inline word separator.
  2. You can cycle through the allowed Jyutping by adding a ～ symbol after the character. (Note that on Windows this must be a full-width “Chinese” tilde.)
  3. You can specify the specific Jyutping you want by adding a .jyutping after the character. Note that this works only on MacOS and iOS. In Windows 11, the only software that supports this is VectorStyler.
How many readings are allowed?

There are 39,480 possible character–Jyutping combinations. Besides what are permissible in dictionaries, these include polysyllabic characters, colloquial usage, special uses in proper nouns, and even “lazy sounds”.

Why Passes?

There are a number of reasons:

  1. lets you download what you are interested currently, but also pick up other related material later;
  2. gives you access to future material that has not yet been made
  3. pay for the ongoing cost of maintaining hosted material (video / app hosting)
How long are Passes valid?

Community Passes are valid forever. Library and Lab Passes are valid for one year.

Do Passes auto-renew?

Passes do NOT auto-renew. You need to renew them manually.

I have a Complete Pass. Do the fonts expire too?

Fonts you ordered are yours to keep. You can visit the Downloads section to get all updates to the products.

Are there group discounts?

✅ In general, groups of 10 or more receives 20% discount.
