Emperor’s New Clothes 國王套新衫

The Emperor’s New Clothes is a classic folktale from Hans Christian Andersen’s collection. Here we present its telling with a Cantonese translation fully accompanied with Jyutping. The translation was written for the story-teller; a Jyutping-reading parent can read this as-is for their children. At 2,700 characters, telling this story takes 12-15 minutes.

The public edition provides the Cantonese translation in the center, annotated with large Jyutping, where tone-marks 1 2 3 4 5 6 greatly facilitates the interpretation of the tones. On the left hand side is standard written Chinese, and on the right column is English.

《國王套新衫 / 國王的新衣》係安徒生童話集裏面嘅經典故事。喺呢度，我哋做咗一套粵文翻譯版本，並為每字標注粵拼。翻譯選擇以「講故事」方式寫作；家長只要識根據粵拼發音，就可以為孩童讀出故事。故事共 2,700 字，可於約 12 分鐘講完。

公眾版本 置中提供粵文翻譯，配以加大粵拼。呢啲粵拼採用 canto.hk 發明嘅聲調符號 1 2 3 4 5 6，清楚表明原本只用數字標示嘅聲調。

左面並行嘅係書面語、右面係英文。

The primary audience, however, are Cantonese adult learners of all levels, who may be interested only in oral proficiency, or also reading/writing.

Adult learners often need an English translation, or a standard written Chinese translation, but seldom both; the Learners’ Editions thus consists of Cantonese translations paralleled with English or standard written Chinese (but not both).

Each paragraph and each clause is given a unique number for quick reference between languages at fine granularity. There is also a equal balance on Jyutping and characters.

canto.hk 製作主要受眾係學緊廣東話嘅成年人。佢哋嘅光譜闊，除咗有各種唔同程度之外，仲會有學習/唔學漢字嘅選擇。

成年人學習時，一般需要英文（東南亞、歐美）或華文（台灣），而少會兩樣並用。學習版本 提供 粵文粵拼 單伴 英或書面語。

每一段、每日句都有清楚獨立數字，令到對比唔同版本翻譯時近容易。漢字亦加至平衡大小。

For learners interested in writing, the story is also provided in the Ladder A-D versions. In these four additional versions (available for each paralleled with English or standard written Chinese), Jyutping were progressively omitted for 3, 10, 32, and 100 common characters; at ladder D, about half of the characters can be read by the learner without assistance of Jyutping.

學習版本更另外提供【認字階梯 A-D】版本。呢四個額外嘅檔案，循序漸進噉為簡單又常用嘅漢字減去粵拼。例如 A 版本將「一、人、口」三字嘅粵拼減去；B 再刪減另外七字。到 D 版本嘅時候，雖然只係要求認識 100 字，故事其中一半已經可以毋須粵拼輔助下自行閲讀。下圖顯示 D 版本。
